Prof Marutha has initiated and joined many community development projects and engaged scholarship at both community and academic level. Community projects are very important for the communities and should be the focus of every human being belonging to any group of people considered to be a community. This may contribute much towards improving the lives of everyone around us. Projects may be based on any discipline or subject area, be it agriculture, education, health, sports, art, culture, heritage and many more.
In the year 2001, Prof Marutha Initiated a community library project emanating from his honours research study about lack of libraries in the rural areas. As an emerging academia with only honours degree as the highest qualification he initiated a library project supported by CSIR with furniture and Limpopo Provincial department of Sports, Art and Culture for annual budget with information resources. The project resulted into the municipality developing a new library building, which is now into operation.
Upon Joining UNISA in the year 2017, Prof joined university community development project about storytelling and reading competitions for learners in the previously marginalised schools. The project aims to assist the schools in improving the learners with regard to skills for reading and telling of stories. Project was focusing on leading learners to read books for understanding and also to tell stories logically.
Ngoako aim to initiate many more projects based on the current circumstances and challenges in the community. Projects may be local, provincial or national and even international as long as it can turn around any challenge affecting the community.
